AAAS Professor Laurence Ralph with colleagues Professor Kerry Chance and Professor Ju Yon Kim, in collaboration with The Provost Fund for Interfaculty Collaboration, The Korea Institute, The Anthropology Department, The Committee of Ethnic Studies, the W.E.D. Du Bois Institute and Hip Hop Archive led a two day event bringing together leading scholars, activists, and artists to look back at- and forward from- the L.A. Riots. The conference combined a retrospective examination of the uprising and reflections on democracy and inequity today, a time of economic crisis and revolution in much of the world. Grammy-award winning rapper, producer and social advocate, David Banner joined the discussion as honored speaker. To view more pictures from the event, click here.
