#  AAAS Affiliate Professor Ellis Monk Receives NIH Award

On **Tuesday, October 4, 2022**, The National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced the awardees of the NIH High-Risk, High-Reward Research Program. **[AAAS Affiliate Professor Ellis Monk](/people/ellis-monk)** was awarded $2.5 Million of grant funding over five years to support his project titled "The Optics of Health: Race Skin Tone Minority Health and Health Disparities in the U.S." Professor Monk's project on skin tone and health examines colorism as a form of social stress, and addresses issues of colorism in pulse oximetry, and more.
