On **Wednesday, October 19, 2022**, the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) announced that **[AAAS Affiliate Professor Jarvis Givens](/people/jarvis-r-givens)**' book *[Fugitive Pedagogy: Carter G. Woodson and the Art of Black Teaching](https://www.hup.harvard.edu/catalog.php?isbn=9780674983687)*, will receive this year’s Frederic W. Ness Book Award. Established in 1979 to honor AAC&U’s ninth president, the Ness Award recognizes outstanding contributions to the understanding and improvement of liberal education.
