#  AAAS Grad Student Panashe Chigumadzi to Appear on This Is Hell

On **Saturday, October 23, 2021**, at 10:00AM (Central) **[AAAS Graduate Student Panashe Chigumadzi](/people/panashe-chigumadzi)** will discuss her recent *Africa is A Country* essay "[The Cry of Black Worldlessness](https://africasacountry.com/2021/10/the-cry-of-black-worldlessness)" on *This is Hell* broadcasting on Chicago's WNUR 89.3FM. Ms. Chigumadzi's essay reflects on the July violence --- the worst civilian violence in post-apartheid South Africa's history -- following President Zuma’s conviction, and the overall crisis in South Africa—COVID, inequality, poverty, homelessness, ongoing extraction of wealth—as a condition of Black worldlessness. Ultimately, the short essay deprovincializes South African history and politics so as to reveal the position/condition of the Black world.
