AAAS Professor Evelynn Hammonds to Speak at CAS Book Launch

On Thursday, October 21, 2021, at 1:00pm (Eastern), the Center For African Studies will host a virtual book launch of Gregg Mitman's recent work, Empire of Rubber: Firestone's Scramble for Land and Power in Liberia. Joining author Gregg Mitman in conversation will be Paul Farmer and AAAS Professor Evelynn Hammonds to discuss racial capitalism, ecological injustice, and medical racism focused on the history of Firestone Tire & Rubber Company and its efforts to turn Liberia, founded in 1847 as a free Black republic, into America’s rubber empire.
