 

#  AAAS Professor Hammonds Elected to Academy of Arts &amp; Sciences

On **Thursday, April 22, 2021**, the American Academy of Arts &amp; Sciences announced in a press release its election of 252 new members, [nine](https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2021/04/nine-from-harvard-community-join-american-academy-of-arts-sciences/) of whom are from the Harvard community, including our very own **[AAAS Professor Evelyn Hammonds](/people/evelynn-m-hammonds)**. Professor Hammonds joins a long list of artists, scholars, scientists, and leaders who've contributed to the common good since the Academy's inception in 1780 including: Benjamin Franklin (elected 1781), Albert Einstein (1924), Margaret Mead (1948), Martin Luther King, Jr. (1966), and Anna Deavere Smith (2019).
