On Thursday, January 28, 2021, The Harvard Crimson published an article entitled "Possible Remains of Enslaved People Found in Harvard Museum Collections" in which it was announced that AAAS Professor Evelynn Hammonds will head a newly created steering committee tasked with the archival research of more than 22,000 human remains within Harvard's museum collections.  Professor Hammond's committee will begin their work with the remains of fifteen individuals of African descent believed to have been alive during the time of slavery. In addition to reviewing the collection and establishing a policy on how Harvard should maintain and handle these remains going forward, the committee will produce a public report of their findings and recommendations by fall of 2021.
