AAAS Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Wins 2023 Tony Horwitz Award

The Society of American Historians announced this week that AAAS Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. is the recipient of the fourth annual Tony Horwitz Award.  The annual prize honors the Society of American Historians' former president, Tony Horitz, who died in 2019, and recognizes a "distinguished work in American history of wide appeal and enduring public significance." Previous winners of the Tony Horwitz Award include: Eric Foner (2022), Lonnie G. Bunch III (2021), and Frances Fitzgerald (2020). The award ceremony was held on May 15, 2023 at the Century Association at 7 West 43rd Street in New York City.
