 

#  AAAS Professor Jesse McCarthy Publishes Anthology of Black Poets

 On **Tuesday, April 11, 2023**, publisher Penguin Random House will release the first volume in an anthology series that amplifies the voices of unsung Black poets to paint a more robust picture of our national past, and of the Black literary imagination. The new book, *[Minor Notes, Volume 1](https://www.penguinrandomhouse.ca/books/702769/minor-notes-volume-1-by-edited-with-an-introduction-by-joshua-bennett-and-jesse-mccarthy-foreword-by-tracy-k-smith/9780143137269)*, was edited by Joshua Bennett and **[AAAS Professor Jesse McCarthy](/people/jesse-mccarthy)**, and features works by poets: George Moses Horton, Fenton Johnson, Georgia Douglas Johnson, Henrietta Cordelia Ray, David Wadsworth Cannon Jr., Anne Spencer, and Angelina Weld Grimké. The book's forward is written by former poet laureate **[AAAS Professor Tracy K. Smith](/people/tracy-k-smith)**.
