#  AAAS Professor Vijay Iyer Hosts Musician Wadada Leo Smith

On **Thursday, October 14, 2021** at 5:00pm (Eastern), the Harvard University Department of Music will host the visionary composer and trumpet player [Wadada Leo Smith](https://wadadaleosmith.com/) for the annual Louis C. Elson Lecture. This virtual event will feature the world premiere of Smith's new piece *Mercy*, created during and about the current pandemic, performed by Smith on trumpet, Andrew Cyrille on drums, and **[AAAS Professor Vijay Iyer](/people/vijay-iyer)** on piano and electronics. This performance will be followed by a dialogue between Smith and Professor Iyer, and a moderated question-and-answer session with the audience.
