 

#  Black Women and the American University: Eileen Southern’s Story

The second of two one-hour webinars exploring the legacy of former AAAS Department Chair Eileen Southern will be held on **Thursday, April 7, 2022** at 4:00pm (Eastern). "Black Women and the American University: Eileen Southern’s Story," is part of the broader Eileen Southern Initiative, housed in the Harvard University Department of Music, which includes a digital exhibition as well as an on-site exhibition in Harvard’s Loeb Music Library, a film, a spring concert by The Aeolians of Oakwood University, and a preceding webinar, “Black Women and the American University: Eileen Southern’s Story,” held on November 15, 2021. Eileen Southern, the first black woman to be appointed full professor with tenure at Harvard, chaired the Department of Afro-American Studies from 1976-1979.
