Crimson Article on the Revitalization of AAAS back in the 1990s

On Tuesday, May 22, 2018, The Harvard Crimson published a second article on the department entitled, “Rebuilding African and African American Studies” by Ashely M. Cooper. The article chronicled the growth of the department and program after the arrival of Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. in 1991, the emergence of the “Dream Team” era, and our continued success in recent years.

The article also includes insights and quotes from alumni, current and former faculty, and AAAS students such as: Dr. Lawrence D. Bobo; Catherine Clinton ’73; Phillip Brian Harper (former professor 1991 to 1995); J. Lorand Matory ’82; Molefi Kete Asante; Mfundo T. Radebe ’20; Ted G. Waechter ’18; and Junius O. Williams ’18.
