Gabriela Thorne, a AAAS Senior Undergraduate Concentrator wrote her second piece as The Nation‘s 2017-2018 Student Writing fellow. The piece, titled “For Students of Color, Ivy League Schools Have a Long Way to Go,” is a fascinating portrait of life as a student of color at Harvard College, from the early days of orientation and what are known as “Community Conversations” tograduation. Gabriela provides an in depth, well-researched, and powerful discussion of diversity recruiting practices (and their failure to achieve real integration and a safe experience for students of color) on the campuses of various Ivy Leagues.
