Professor Gates receives major RWJ grant to Advance interest in STEM education

Henry Louis Gates, Jr. has just received a major grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to increase excitement about STEM education and fields of study via his longtime interest in family genealogy.  The program involves the creation of genealogy and genetics summer camps and will involve several college and university partners including Spelman College, Morehouse College, and North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro.

Professor Jacob Olupona has been awarded the Reimar Lust Award by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The award is in recognition of “outstanding humanities scholars and social scientists from abroad who, as multipliers in and through the field of academic studies, have made an exceptional contribution to the enduring promotion of bilateral relations between Germany and their own countries.”

President Obama to Award 2014 National Humanities Medal to Professor Higginbotham

WASHINGTON (September 3, 2015) — The White House today announced the distinguished recipients of the 2014 National Humanities Medal. The awardees include historians, writers, a philosopher, scholar, preservationist, food activist and an education course. President Barack Obama will confer the medal in a September 10 ceremony in the East Room. The First Lady will also attend.
