Abigail Katz is a doctoral candidate in the Department of African and African American Studies, with a primary field in Social Anthropology. Her secondary field is in Studies of Women, Gender, and Sexuality. Her research interests are migration and belonging, religious networks, African Christianity, diaspora identity, gender and sexuality, and contemporary South Africa.

Her current doctoral dissertation research focuses on the intersection of migration and religion in South Africa. In particular, she looks at how new charismatic forms of Christianity affect the ‘world-making’ practices of African migrants. She is interested in the development of transnational migrant religious networks, diaspora religious identity and belonging, youth and social reproduction, and South Africa as a ‘hub’ between migratory circuits of the global South and North.

Abigail holds an MSc in African Studies from the University of Oxford and a BA (Hons) in Geography from the University of Manchester.
