Maya Doig-Acuña is a PhD student in African & African American Studies with a primary field in History. Her research interests include Afro-diaspora, feminist studies, memory and family history, and Black geographies. Her current work examines 20th century Caribbean migration, memory, and community formation in Central America – particularly Panama – and in the U.S., with a focus on Brooklyn, New York. She was born and raised in New York City, and received a B.A. with highest honors in American Studies from Middlebury College. Her published writing can be found in Southern Cultures Journal, Guernica Magazine, and Remezcla.
